PatternHunter was chosen to be featured on Java.Sun.Com in the two-part series "Exploring the New Frontier: JavaTM Technology Powers the 'Post-Genomic' Era". PatternHunter is the only software in the world that is faster than Blast with superior sensitivity. It is capable of identifying all approximate repeats in a complete genome in a short time using little memory on a desktop computer. While much of the power of PatternHunter is due to its advanced patented algorithm and data structures, the Java language takes credit for helping to facilitate these design goals. The Java language version of PatternHunter is just 40 KB--only 1% the size of Blast, while offering a large portion of its functionality.
