Mon, Jun 17, 2002: BSI Releases New Auto De Novo Sequencing Software for Mass Spec called PEAKS

Bioinformatics Solutions Inc., an advanced software solutions provider is pleased to announce the release of PEAKS software last week at the American Society of Mass Spectrometry Conference in Orlando, Florida. The PEAKS program is based on sophisticated algorithm design in addition to the traditional dynamic programming approach. Current software tools for de novo sequencing arena accurate enough to identify the protein peptides from mass spec data and therefore do not meet the needs of biotech and pharmaceutical companies. Says Gilles Lajoie from the University of Western Ontario, PEAKS makes the interpretation of MS/MS data much easier and much faster. We've tried a lot of different software packages and we find PEAKS to be the best." PEAKS software correctly derives more peptide sequences on tandem MS/MS data from any mass spectrometer than any other software. PEAKS uses a method that searches for all the possible peptides in the whole search space for the best matches based on a scoring scheme, takes into account most types of ions into the computation and automatically detects many posttranslational modifications including phosphorylation. The difference between database search software and PEAKS de novo sequencing is that only a subset of all possible peptides are contained in any database in practice. Therefore, the non-existing peptides in the databases can only be found de novo, which is very important for today mass spectrometry researchers. Says President, Ming Li, Pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies realize the cost savings of outsourcing advanced algorithms and software programs like PEAKS to bioinformatics specialists who are dedicated to creating advanced algorithms and new software like those at BSI? and states Li, We have the ability to offer superior quality and competitive prices to our client for both stand-alone proteomics software and customized software solutions.? An online and demo download version of PEAKS can be found at the BSI website at http://www.bioinformaticssolutions.com. Bioinformatics Solutions Inc. mission continues to be the development of advanced algorithms and innovative software that provide real solutions for today proteomics and drug discovery. In addition to PEAKS, BSI offers other products like PatternHunter, desktop homology software up to 400 times faster than Blast at the same sensitivity and PROSPECT, award-winning 3-D protein structure prediction software. The company also specializes in customization software development for biotech and pharmaceutical companies. BSI is headquartered in Waterloo, Ontario.
